It comes with a pledge and commitment to ensure that the constituency is safer, cleaner and a more united community.

Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff, who is the party’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said the pledge was not difficult to deliver if the elected assemblyman was sincere and committed.

“Whoever is elected, must be committed to deliver sincere services to help raise the standard and quality of life to his or her constituents,” he added.

Syed Razak said to ensure a safer environment, the assemblyman must be prepared to forge a closer relationship with the police.

“And, safer is not only in terms of police patrols to deter break-ins and snatch thefts, safer in terms of dengue and zika whereby Selangor is champion!

“He or she must then get community policing and public health activities going throughout the year by working with resident associations. If an assemblyman fails to do this, then he or she has failed,” he added.

'Abandoned vehicles an eye sore'

TWO open spaces, each about the size of a badminton court, in front of low-cost flats in Jalan Cecawi 6/6, Kota Damansara in Petaling Jaya, Selangor have been turned into a graveyard for old vehicles. It is also used as a makeshift car park by those staying at the nearby Palma Puteri and Palma Perak apartments. Checks by the New Straits Times revealed that 13 damaged vehicles had been left to rust by the roadside. Five of the vehicles were abandoned on both sides of Jalan Cecawi 6/6. For a cleaner environment, Syed Razak said the assemblyman must be prepared to hear complaints and woes of the constituents.

“It is wrong to run away or try to avoid or push the complaints to others. The assemblyman must respond positively to complaints by helping to get the local authorities to resolve environmental problems.

“All the townships in Bukit Lanjan like Bandar Sri Damansara, Damansara Perdana, Desa Jaya, Damansara Damai, Kg Sg Kayu Ara, except for Mutiara Damansara and Bandar Utama, are full of garbage. A sight to behold in terms of loads of rubbish and unsightly piles of garbage. Cleanliness is very poor.

“And, this is not only about effective and efficient garbage collection. It is also about public education and municipal enforcement.

“Are there, also, enough garbage bins in the townships to discourage or stop the littering?” he asked.

On community unity, Syed Razak said the assemblyman must organise as many activities as possible to forge communal harmony and understanding.

“In this case, working with resident associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) is the best solution to achieve communal harmony and unity.

“Organising public education and awareness programmes and campaigns will also help forge communal understanding and unity.

“Organising gotong royong and pot luck gatherings for communities are also another effort that can help forge a closer bond among Malaysians.

“Yes, there’s much work for an assemblyman. But, if you are sincerely committed to deliver services to your constituents, you must try by putting up as much effort as possible. The assemblyman must be super organised for his or her constituents,” he added.

“If the above pledges are not delivered satisfactorily, then it is time to change the assemblyman,” he added.
