Selangor rakyat reason behind state’s economic success

Selangor is the most developed state in Malaysia – home to the sophisticated Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the renowned Sepang International Racing Circuit as well as containing Kuala Lumpur, the economic hub of Malaysia, and Putrajaya, the country’s administrative capital, within its boundaries. With a population exceeding 4 million, Selangor is propelled by urban growth and commercialisation, evident in the large numbers of shopping centres, business complexes and industrial areas. Hence, Selangor is the richest state in Malaysia. Selangor first started out as a territory under the Malaccan Sultanate. Then once Malacca fell to the Portuguese and then the Dutch, the Bugis people from Sulawesi came and settled in Selangor. In the late 18th century, Selangor’s economy boomed as a result of the growing tin industry and demand for rubber. A large population of Chinese immigrants arrived but were entrenched in a civil war, disrupting the precious mining and rubber trade. The British took the opportunity to seize control of the state, restored order and prospered Selangor. After the war, it became part of Malaysia on Independence Day. Today, Selangor is a modern state equipped with the latest facilities and infrastructure. Selangor rakyat reason behind state’s economic success

Selangor is known as Malaysia’s most developed state, this is a fact. Many individuals have laid claim to being the reason behind Selangor’s success as the economic powerhouse of the country.

The latest of them is current Mentri Besar Azmin Ali, who never fails to mention it whenever he has the opportunity. But I don’t think he’s correct.

To me, Selangor is successful because of us, Selangor citizens.

The businessmen, professionals, hawkers, traders, fishermen, farmers, service sector employees – all in all, an estimated 6.39 million of us as of 2017, and the millions of illegal workers as well.

Without all of us, Azmin would have nothing to be proud about.

Selangor, like any other state or country, is what it is today because of the people who live and work here. Governments are only catalysts, they can do their best to either make things BETTER or WORSE for the citizens, but they can NEVER build a state or nation without its citizens.

Selangor citizens are hardworking, resilient and versatile. They are my neighbours, my clients, my friends, and also my family.

We do their best every day to ensure that we have enough to support our families, and create a better future.

Starting as a small, humble town in the fifties measuring only 2.12 square kilometers, Petaling Jaya has vastly developed into one of the most important cities in Malaysia. Also known as the twin sister of Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya is Malaysia’s very first planned town. Consisting of numerous commercial, residential and business districts, the satellite city is now a renowned metropolitan city of no less than 500,000 inhabitants. Due to its close proximity to Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya remains a popular choice amongst city dwellers and visitors alike. Aside from being extremely convenient to get to the city centre from here, Petaling Jaya with its abundance of shopping and dining areas is also popular amongst ardent shopaholics and dedicated foodies … for more, go to http://www.kuala-lumpur.ws/klareas/pj.htm

When things are good, we smile and laugh together, when things are bad, we do our best to get through it as best we can. We are determined to succeed, and that is why Selangor is prosperous, with most of its citizens able to afford a lifestyle that is much better than citizens from other states.

We worked hard to achieve it, and we all deserve to be praised for it. Selangor citizens are self-reliant, when faced with hardship, we don’t look for handouts, we solve problems ourselves, especially when the authorities wash their hands off things.

We help each other out, as friends and equals.

Selangor became successful not because of the old boss. Selangor is still successful not because we changed bosses. And Selangor certainly isn’t successful because of the current boss.

Heck, Selangor will continue to be successful without Azmin.
Why? Because Selangor citizens – people like you and I – will still continue to build a better future for our families, our friends and our community.

The current MB should stop talking as if he and he alone is the person responsible for Selangor’s success. He should instead, thank everyone for giving him the opportunity to brag and boast about the state’s achievements, and finally acknowledge the sacrifices we all have paid all this while.
