“We really don’t need Monster Employment Index (MEI) Malaysia to tell us that there is now more demand for IT and telecommunications industry jobs,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.
“We really don’t need Monster Employment Index (MEI) Malaysia to tell us that there is now more demand for IT and telecommunications industry jobs,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.
“If the federal government, educators and Malaysians don’t know what type of skills are required of human capital in this fast IT growing 21st Century era, something must be very wrong in Malaysia,” he added.
Syed Razak said: “I have been reiterating in this blog that Malaysians and Malaysia need to immediately start thinking out of the box and adapt to fast global technology changes that also drastically changes lifestyles.
“Education and technical education and training need a total overhaul to ensure that Malaysia produces employable graduates in the correct fields.
“The human capital that we need to propel Malaysia forward not only must be competent, they must acquire the right knowledge and skills as demanded by the IT-electronic era for them to be really employable.
“Competency is no more enough for employment. The human capital that Malaysia educates, nurtures and trains must have the right skills to be employable,” he added.
“There is simply no time to waste, given that developed nations are not only ahead of us by leaps and bounds, they are now coming up with innovative and disruptive products at lightning speed.
“Global competition in technology advancement has triggered a fiery race to outdo each other for the global market share of their products,” he added.

Urgent need to correct skills mismatch between fresh grads and industry needs.
KUALA LUMPUR: Online recruitment for information technology (IT), telecommunications and the IT-based business processes industry grew by 12% in April compared to the same month last year.
According to the Monster Employment Index (MEI) Malaysia, released by Monster.com today, online hiring by the oil and gas industry also grew by 11% year-on-year (y-o-y) in April, while hiring in production/manufacturing, automotive and ancillary increased by 6%.
Monster.com Asia-Pacific and Middle East managing director, Sanjay Modi said among the occupational groups monitored by MEI, sales and business development roles were most in demand, registering 9% y-o-y growth in online hiring.
However, he said as fluctuations in the Malaysian labour market had persisted, it was important for businesses to devise a talent strategy to minimise the skills mismatch between that of fresh graduates and the industry’s current requirements.
“The global workforce is in a constant flux, and it is vital for the government, industry and educational institutions to work in sync and support workers in mid-careers to upskill.
“Moreover, with sales and business development roles taking the lead, candidates with keen perspectives and a flair for commercial acumen will be most in demand.
“Malaysia needs to address the country’s skills challenges and help the economy towards its goal of achieving the high-income status by 2020.”
Meanwhile, overall online hiring in Malaysia declined 11% y-o-y, with the retail sector continuing to fare the worst among the job sectors, falling 36% y-o-y."
