Dead chickens sold at RM2 per bird to food operators in Penang?

Dead chickens sold at RM2 per bird to food operators in Penang?

When you see a lorry laden with dead chickens, will it worry you? Isn’t it a suspicious sight?

The above picture is believed to have been shot in Penang and is now shared in WhatsApp.

The person who shared the picture claims that he confronted the lorry driver and was told that the “dead” chickens were being delivered for sale to chicken rice sellers and nasi kandar operators at RM2 per bird!

When pointed out that it is wrong to do that, the driver said you can go complain to anyone you want! The JPJ (Road Transport Department) is not stopping me, my boss will kow tim (settle) everything!

“This is just unbelievable and shocking. It is blatant disregard for public health and to Muslims who observe strictly to halal food,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He urged all related enforcement authorities to immediately investigate the truth to the lorry-load of dead chickens.

“The source of the dead chickens can be traced easily. The registration number plate of the lorry is clearly visible,” he added.
Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan, said: “In fact the picture has alerted all authorities, especially those responsible for public health, to be alert and suspicious of such matters nationwide.

“Surely Bukit Lanjan residents do not want such food to be consumed in eateries, if it is also happening in the Klang Valley.”

Syed Razak urged the authorities to act swiftly and launch an immediate investigation into the truth of the lorry-load of dead chickens.

“And enforcement agencies must now make it a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to detain lorry drivers ferrying such suspicious consignments for investigations.

“This must be a nationwide SOP for all enforcement agencies. The Health Ministry must wake up and act in the interest of public health and Malaysians.

"Do not treat this matter lightly,” he added.

Photo of chicken carcasses on lorry goes viral

BY DINA MURAD

PETALING JAYA: A photo of a lorry with a Penang licence plate carrying dead chickens has gone viral, with claims that the meat was meant for human consumption.

The image shows dead chickens being carried openly without containers or any covering, and had a caption claiming that the chickens were being sold for RM2 each to eateries.

A voice recording was also shared together with the image, in which a man is heard saying in Malay that it was not the first time that chickens were transported this way.

He then told a person that a complaint could be lodged wherever they wish to complain as his boss could settle the issue, adding that the Road Transport Department has never stopped the lorry.

The man added that the dead chickens were bought and sold in this way.

Neither the claims or the voice recording could be verified as at press time."
