There’s no room for racial and religious bigotry in festivities
Be it individuals or companies wishing to extend such greetings, the contents of the greetings have come under closer scrutiny today.
“When we live in multi-racial multi-religious communities and country, national harmony and unity become the top priority for Malaysia,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.
“Malaysia can never prosper socially and economically if there is no harmony and unity in its communities,” he added.
“We have seen how, in the past, Malaysians celebrate together the various festivities. We enjoy the holidays together, share the joy and goodies together in open houses.
“We must uphold this tradition of celebration at all cost. It is the foundation to a sustainable and progressive national or community unity to ensure a happy and prosperous Malaysia,” Syed Razak said.
Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said: “That is why my banners read wishing to all Malaysians.
“We all enjoy the goodies, holidays and celebrations together. There is absolutely no room for racial and religious bigotry. We are all Malaysians First.”
Syed Razak urged Malaysians to reject those who resort to hooliganism and fear tactics to divide the people and country.
“They are only threatening and jeopardising national unity. They cannot be allowed to succeed with their agenda, for the sake of Malaysians and Malaysia,” he said after putting up Christmas and New Year greeting banners in Bukit Lanjan.
The banners read: “Wishing all Malaysians a joyous Christmas & A Happy New Year 2017 - Peace & goodwill to all mankind”
