The 2014 Geneva Motor Show is currently underway, and Swiss design and engineering firm Rinspeed revealed a new concept car at its home event. Rinspeed’s new concept, called the XchangE, explores the potential designs an autonomous carcould yield, taking a conventional sedan, in this case an all-electric Tesla Model S, and using it to demonstrate all the benefits that a driver could enjoy if the task of driving was no longer required … for more, go to http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1089048_rinspeed-reveals-tesla-model-s-based-xchange-autonomous-concept

AI-EV is serious technology and business … Tesla ups pay by a whopping 30% at its German division

While Malaysia continues to be left far, far behind in the car technology, especially in the development of Artificial Intelligence-Electric Vehicle (AI-EV), the global players are already rushing to consolidate their future.

It’s costly, but Tesla still found it necessary to keep its operations and Research & Development (R&D) going uninterrupted and smooth going.

“Tesla is giving its staff a whopping 30% pay rise across the board in Germany! And, that’s really, really costly,” Gerkan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“The global race to produce the most efficient and viable AI-EV is extremely keen and competitive. There’s no stopping for the players who have already invested millions of dollars, if not billions, on R&D for AI-EV,” he added.

For Tesla, arguably the global leader in EV assembling, it cannot afford to lose its momentum in production and R&D.

“Out of the blue, we have this news titled ‘Rinspeed hopes its latest autonomous car idea will click’. That’s how furious the global car manufacturers are moving with innovative ideas and technology,” said Syed Razak who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Congratulations, Tesla. You've arrived. One of your cars has now been done up by insane Swiss tuner Rinspeed, whose previous efforts include a submarine Lotus Elise. And their tweaked Model S does not disappoint.

Tesla faces higher wage costs in Germany as it wrestles with what Chief Executive Elon Musk(filepic) has described as "production hell" in launching its new Model 3 sedan, which Tesla hopes will make it a mass-market producer.

HAMBURG: Luxury electric car maker Tesla Inc and labour leaders at its German engineering unit have agreed a new pay structure that will raise workers' salaries by about 30 percent from current levels, the division's works council said.

"We will now get to a competitive wage level," a spokesman for the works council said on Wednesday after a staff gathering at Tesla Grohmann Automation GmbH, based in western Germany.

"The workforce was informed today that we will introduce a pay structure" at Grohmann, which has about 650 workers, he said, without elaborating.

In an emailed statement, Tesla said the new remuneration structure, retroactively effective from Oct. 1, guarantees staff "a fair and competitive salary" and will include a pay raise for apprenticeships, but it did not confirm the 30 percent figure.

In April, Tesla pledged a 5-year job guarantee for all Grohmann employees up to at least 2022. Workers also received a 10,000-euro (£8,940) grant each of Tesla stock and an additional bonus of 1,000 euros with their April pay and a monthly salary increase of 150 euros, it said.

Tesla faces higher wage costs in Germany as it wrestles with what Chief Executive Elon Musk has described as "production hell" in launching its new Model 3 sedan, which Tesla hopes will make it a mass-market producer.

The company warned earlier this month that production bottlenecks had left the company behind with its planned ramp-up for the Model 3.

German daily newspaper Die Welt reported the wage pact earlier on Wednesday.

Before being bought by Tesla last year, Grohmann, based in the town of Pruem near the Luxembourg border, helped clients build highly automated and efficient factories, including battery assembly lines for electric cars.

The U.S. carmaker is counting on Grohmann's automation and engineering expertise to help it ramp up production to 500,000 cars per year by 2018 through the design of ultra-efficient factories. – Reuters

The company that brought us transportation pods with window gardens and bonsai trees and sportscars with their own drones is back with a new concept car called ‘Snap.' And, like every Rinspeed creation, it's potentially the first concept vehicle to explore future mobility and immobility needs.

And that's because the car's chassis can detach from its body, leaving it behind while the motorised element of the concept heads off again to collect a new body and offer a new service.

So, the Snap could be a mobile office and relaxation space then detach the office pod in a perfectly central location and then head back off to a depot or other area to be refitted as a delivery truck.

Its creator, Frank M. Rinderknecht, likens the concept to using a motorised skateboard as a trolley for transporting something too heavy to carry. Once it arrives at is destination, the skateboard can autonomously hit the road again.

If all of the high-tech smarts that make a vehicle autonomous and capable of processing digital maps and finding its way around an urban environment are kept exclusive to the Snap concept's chassis, when its on-board processors and other tech are out of date, just that element of the vehicle will need updating.

The existing platform can be recycled and new ones measuring the same dimensions can hit the road instead and they will still be compatible with the myriad potential pods they can transport – be it a family road-trip pod, a food truck, an on-the-go office space, or a pop-up haute couture store.

Developed with assistance from two of the world's leading automotive and technological suppliers, including Harman International, Tom Tom, SAP and ZF, the Snap Concept will be on show from Jan 7-12 at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center. — AFP Relaxnews"
