Shouldn’t we appreciate and thank those who risk their lives to stop snatch thieves and robbers?
It is sad that police have classified as culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Penal Code against a student who rammed down a snatch thief who eventually died.
The student was just doing his part in stopping the tracks of a snatch thief. If the police think it is wrong, then it is discouraging Good Samaritans in Malaysia.
“What are the cops expecting from Good Samaritans? Go down on their knees and beg criminals to surrender peacefully?” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.
He said the police seemed more concerned with charging Good Samaritans and those who risk their lives to stop criminals, like snatch thieves and robbers.
“What is the message the police are sending to the public? Don’t do anything to stop snatch thieves and robbers at the crime scene?” he asked.
Syed Razak said the police should not be treating Good Samaritans and those initiating citizen’s arrest as “criminals”.
“They should instead thank the public for stopping or taking down a scumbag in society,” he added.

“Of course the public will blame the cops for lack of crime prevention or competency in stopping criminals! You want that to happen? You want the public to not lift a finger, turn and walk away?”
Syed Razak urged the police to review and reconsider its actions against Good Samaritans and those who risk their lives to initiate citizen’s arrest to stop criminals at the crime scene.
“There is already no doubt, at the crime scene, that the snatch thief or robber is as guilty as hell. So, why should the police come down so hard on Good Samaritans and those initiating citizen’s arrest?
“Again, I say this. The scumbags of society have only themselves to blame if they lose their lives while preying on their victims.
“Such scumbags of society are a threat to public safety and they do not deserve any sympathy. We have already read so often of such ‘tragedies’ befalling on snatch thief and robbers.
“And the police coming down hard on Good Samaritans and those initiating citizen’s arrest. The student rammed his car into the snatch thief on a motorcycle and the scumbag was killed.
“What’s the difference when the police shoots dead such scumbags? The student would not have known whether the scumbag was armed or not, right?”

It is learnt that the 25-year-old suspect had snatched a bag belonging to a Yemeni student who was having drinks at a mamak stall at about 3.30am.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminudin Megat Alias said the suspect died due to head injuries.
"He has records for assault, criminal intimidation and a drug offence.
"We have detained the Yemeni student, in his 20s, and checking his documents,” he said.
“We will apply for a remand order on the student to assist in investigations," he said.
The suspect’s body has been sent to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.
The case has been classified as culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Penal Code."
